I started Piece of Cake Parties in 2013. It was the answer to my dilemma – how do I create cute, original, charming looking parties when I work full time and have two young children? Once my daughter was born, we started getting invited to birthday parties. Suddenly, I noticed that everyone was hosting these adorable parties – such creative themes and decorations. We didn’t get invited to many Sesame Street parties. I thought, “Well, these parties are adorable but who has time to do this?” So as I started hosting my kids’ birthdays and our own family parties, I tried to get more creative. But what I found was I either devoted way more time than I should have to planning the party or I spent way too much money.
Fast forward a few years and I started thinking about what I would do in my professional life. I am a marketer, and I have always worked full-time even with kids. I do love working. It’s just my thing. But I also did not want to pay someone to drive my kids to soccer practice and dance class for the rest of their lives. Like many women, I faced the challenge of how to do both.
I had always had a dream of owning my own business but I didn’t have the idea. With the encouragement and inspiration of my friend in Nashville, who owns a wonderful bakery called Frosted Affair, and the incredible help and support of my husband, my business idea was born. And it does feel like it was born. Like my two pregnancies, it was a labor of love.
My hope for Piece of Cake Parties is that it makes all of your parties charming and beautiful AND that it makes party planning fun for you again. Parties should be joyous, fun occasions but they are often dampened by the stress of planning. Hopefully, Piece of Cake Parties eliminates that stress and maybe even goes far enough to inspire you to have more parties and celebrations and do what’s really important – spend more time enjoying your family and friends.
